Birthdays and Baseball

It was so wonderful being back in New York with family for 11 days. I especially happy that I was able to be there to Celebrate "Micah man's" 4th birthday! Like most things Johnson related, it was a baseball themed party.

The one request I had for my trip home was to watch some ball games. Between Thad, Tage, and Kiah, I watched 9 games in 11 days, 4 were in less than 48 hours of being home!

Tailgating at Thad's game!

The little boys favorite part of the game, after when they can go out on the field and play catch with Uncle Thad.

I'm now back in Tulsa, getting caught up on work in the office. I am trying to get caught up as quickly as possible because in just a few short weeks I'll be gone or another two weeks. This time for another trip to Korea!

A Little Backyard Baseball

We have a baseball field in my side yard. Apparently that isn't normal. Who knew? The other day it was a beautiful summer day and Thad and Tage were out in the side yard giving Kiah some tips. I love watching them work with their little sister. Thought I would share a few pictures!

Happy Saturday!

Congrats Tage!

Tage recently received his college acceptance letter to Houghton! Can you tell he's a little excited?
And a bit goofy.... although that really is nothing new.
Reading his acceptance letter.
Congrats Tage, I'm so proud of you!

Day 12 of Thankfulness: Sports

I am thankful for sports.

I grew up in a “sports loving” family. With five brothers, it was inevitable I guess. I have probably watched more ESPN than any other channel on TV. I also grew up going to numerous sporting events. Baseball games, swim meets, and football games. Recently we have added softball to the mix since Kiah decided to play.

Sports have always been a part of my life. Since my Dad is a swim coach, I grew up going to swim meets since a very young age (I believe I was only a few weeks old at my first swim meet). I have probably been to more baseball games that I could even try to keep track of. I always thought it would be fun to keep track of them since sometimes we would have 2 or 3 games in a night, but we didn't.

Maybe when I was younger, I would complain about going, but now, I miss it. I miss going to baseball games and swim meets. Sitting out at a football game, bundled up, on a fall evening. It’s a huge part of my life. This past spring when I was home, I was able to watch Asa and Thad play college baseball, Tage play high school baseball, and Kiah play softball. When I am home this next month, I’ll be able to watch Tage swim. I can’t wait!

No, sports are not everything, but they can teach you so much. I swam competitively for 15 years, including in college. Swimming was such a huge part of my life. It taught me to set goals and reach for them. It taught me time management, determination, how to really work hard, and how incredible it feels when you reach those goals. Swimming taught me about a job well done. Swimming also helped me to pay for college, which was a huge blessing. Without my scholarship, I probably would not be able to be in China today.

Swimming was hard, no doubt about that. There were days that I wanted to give up and quite, but I kept at it and the Lord taught me so much. He has taught me so much through sports, for which I am truly thankful.
Yes, I am thankful for sports and the huge part they have played in my life.

Baseball Games

It has been so nice to be able to spend some time with my two adorable nephews while I've been home.
Not sure if you can tell or not, but Landon is a fan of baseball, especially the NY Mets.
But even more than the Mets, he LOVE watching his Uncle Asa and Thad play.
Oh yeah... and when he gets tired of watching the game, he rolls down the hill.
 Looks like fun, doesn't it?
Landon, you are going to be so big when I see you again!

Sunday Snapshot: Love of the Game

Since growing up with 5 brothers and watching them all play ball, it does my heart good to see my nephew also falling in love with the sport of baseball.
Watching my brothers work with him and be patient with him, makes me smile.
This little guy at just 3 1/2 years old LOVE sports.... of course he doesn't really have a choice!
 Working with Uncle Asa!
 Nice hit Landon!
Look at that determination on his face.
 Looking good!
Can't wait to watch you play ball as you get older, Landon!
