Sunday Snapshot: Valentine's Day Sweets

Over the last two years of living in China, I have received several care packages from sweet, thoughtful friends. One of the things I often request are cookie mixes. It is hard to find good flour and supplies over here and since I really don't bake often, I decided that even though I prefer "from scratch" cookies, mixes are just more practical. Therefore, I have received many!

This week I was in the mood to bake and decided that Valentine's Day was the perfect day to bake cookies. The frosting, however, IS from scratch. It turned out pretty well! I just wish I had food coloring so I could make it pink, but I don't. No candy hearts to put on top so mini M&M's had to do.

We have a couple families over here and so I was able to share my sweet treat with them. After all, I don't want these delicious goodies in my apartment because with my sweet tooth, we know what would happen.

Happy Valentine's Day from China!

  1. Did the mini m&m's come in your care package too? I'm always looking for a reason to share my baked good when I make them for the same reason- who really needs to eat an entire batch of cookies of pan of brownies alone? ;) The good thing is, it's always easy to find people to share sweets with.

    1. No, I bought the m&m's here. I wanted to buy sprinkles but for $6 USD, I didn't think they were quite worth it. The m&m's were much more reasonably priced. Here's the thing, in China it IS hard for me to find people to share my sweets with. The Chinese find American sweets to be "too sweet." Thankfully, we just had a family of 7 move here from Canada and I think they will be more than willing to help me finish off a batch of cookies or brownies. :)

    1. Thanks! I'm not quite sure where those came from but I thought they were perfect for the occasion!
